However Byers hasn't fully drunk the portal Kool Aid - yes, they are useful, but no, they are not the end of the story. "In the 'old days', buyers and tenants would walk from one end of the high street to the other, popping into each estate agent to register with them and take away a nice stack of property brochures," he said.
